Crise de chefferie à Akrou : Le Sous-préfet de Jacqueville Appelle au Dialogue et à l'Apaisement

The sub-prefect of Jacqueville, Bakayoko Saguidi , intervened publicly on Friday, November 21, 2025, in an attempt to resolve the chieftaincy succession crisis that has divided the village of Akrou for over a year. Akrou is a locality situated 6 kilometers from Jacqueville.

During this crucial meeting, the administrative authority urged the population to "preserve peace and resume dialogue" in the face of persistent tensions.

📝 Hearing of Family Heads and Customary Disagreements

The crisis erupted after the death of Chief Ignace Yacé in 2024. Currently, the transition is being managed by an interim chief, Kpoukpou N'Guessan Antoine , whose actions are being challenged.

To clarify the rules of appointment, the sub-prefect conducted sworn hearings of the seven heads of families .

The main source of discord lies in a recent proposal by the interim chief. In September 2025, Mr. Kpoukpou submitted to the prefecture the name of N'Guessan Narcisse as "natural successor".

  1. Opposition: Part of the village rejected this candidacy, arguing that it constitutes a breach of tradition .
  2. Controversial rule: According to opponents, only the ruling Tchava family is entitled to choose the chief, the land chief only having an official role.

⏸️ Postponement of Decision and Call for Cohesion

Given the seriousness of the disagreements, Bakayoko Saguidi announced the postponement of any official decision . This delay will allow the administration to thoroughly examine the statements and testimonies gathered.

The sub-prefect firmly reiterated the importance of harmony, declaring that "peace is the most important commodity in a community. No one should sow division."

He urged family heads to engage in the search for a consensus , while assuring them that the administration would "remain respectful of customs and traditions" in handling the case. He also warned against any action that could disrupt village cohesion.

Mr. Saguidi promised to return to Akrou to present the administration's conclusions after analyzing the evidence.
