Cybercriminalité : Quand l'humour bascule dans l'illégalité
Carelessness on social media can be costly. One internet user, identified by the initials BW , learned this the hard way after being contacted by the Platform for Combating Cybercrime (PLCC). His offense? Posting content deemed offensive under the guise of humor.
It all started with a Facebook post. What was intended as a simple joke actually addressed a serious and taboo subject: gender-based violence (GBV) . While some internet users may have laughed, the message's impact primarily sparked outrage by trivializing real acts of violence.
In response to the spread of this content, the Ministry of Women, Family and Children immediately contacted the PLCC. Thanks to a swift investigation, cybercrime experts were able to trace the author of the publication.
The arrest: During his hearing, BW admitted to the acts, claiming he was unaware of the seriousness of his remarks or their social impact. Despite his regrets and apologies, the wheels of justice began to turn.
The individual was brought before the public prosecutor's office for two main reasons, based on law no. 2013-451 of June 19, 2013 relating to the fight against cybercrime:
This case serves as a stark reminder to all users of digital platforms: freedom of expression ends where the infringement of human dignity begins.
