Filière café-cacao : deux responsables syndicaux placés sous mandat de dépôt à Abidjan
Two union officials from the coffee-cocoa sector were placed under arrest warrant on Monday, February 2, 2026 , following their hearing at the research brigade of the gendarmerie in Plateau, Abidjan.
The two men, well-known figures in the agricultural union movement, were questioned as part of legal proceedings related to public statements they made concerning the management and marketing of cocoa. After appearing before the competent judicial authorities, they were remanded in custody pending further proceedings.
This case comes amid strong tensions within the sector , marked in recent months by critical stances, union demands and debates around the conditions of sale of cocoa and the situation of producers.
A pillar of the Ivorian economy, the coffee and cocoa sector remains a sensitive sector, where economic, social and institutional issues regularly give rise to confrontations between the different actors.
At this stage, the judicial authorities are continuing their investigations. The individuals involved benefit from the presumption of innocence , in accordance with applicable principles.
