The whistle has blown for reckless drivers of official vehicles. In an official statement released on Friday, February 20, 2026 , the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs announced a drastic measure: the immediate withdrawal of official vehicles from any employee found guilty of traffic violations.
This decision follows a rise in dangerous behavior involving vehicles with "official" (administrative or diplomatic) license plates. The ministry is particularly targeting three problems:
Through its chief of staff, Dioman Coné, the ministry sought to set the record straight. Referring to decree no. 2016-864 , it reiterated that the use of a state vehicle does not grant immunity from the Highway Code.
"These plates do not confer any special privileges," the statement emphasizes, specifying that the removal of the vehicle will be done independently of the criminal and administrative proceedings already provided for by law.
