Grand-Bassam : Un nouveau cap pour un développement urbain maîtrisé
The Grand-Bassam town hall has reached a pivotal stage in the modernization of the seaside resort. On January 15th, the National Bureau of Technical Studies and Development (BNETD) officially presented the territorial diagnosis of the municipality, a strategic document that will serve as the foundation for the future Master Plan for Territorial Development .
This 228-page report provides a comprehensive overview of the realities of Bassam. Urbanization, demographics, environmental issues, and socioeconomic challenges: nothing has been left to chance. The study notably highlights the city's rapid population growth, from 84,028 inhabitants in 2016 to 124,567 in 2021 .
This growth of nearly 50% in just six years, accentuated by proximity to Abidjan, is putting unprecedented pressure on:
For Mayor Jean-Louis Moulot , this master plan is much more than a technical document; it is a "compass" for municipal action. The objective is clear: to transform current growth into harmonious and sustainable development.
"The future of Grand-Bassam must be built neither through improvisation nor haste, but through reflection and collective action," the mayor stated.
The project also includes a priority action plan to address immediate emergencies while preparing the city for the challenges of tomorrow.
The presentation took place in the presence of representatives of the population and prefectural authorities. The Secretary General of the Prefecture, Mathieu Lago , praised this participatory approach, inviting all local stakeholders to take ownership of the report's conclusions to ensure the successful transformation of Côte d'Ivoire's first capital.
