Korhogo : 250 femmes formées à la transformation du moringa, un atout majeur contre la malnutrition
Korhogo, Ivory Coast - In the Savanes District, 250 women from five villages in Korhogo participated in an intensive training course on promoting moringa, nicknamed the "miracle tree," from October 13 to 17, 2025.
This initiative aims to strengthen food security and nutrition in households by harnessing the benefits of this plant.
Led by the NGO Animation rurale de Korhogo (ARK) and funded by Aqua Alimenta , this session is part of the “Sustainable management of soil and water for better nutrition” project.
Moringa, a nutritional treasure for families
Led by Ms. Sombo Salimata née Ouattara , promoter of the Scope TV cooperative and long-time activist for local products, the training highlighted the extraordinary richness of moringa leaves, true concentrates of iron, calcium and vitamins.
The participants learned techniques for preparing and processing the plant. They now master the enrichment of local dishes and the production of various derivative products: syrup, herbal teas, flour, and even biscuits. Moringa can be incorporated into traditional dishes such as okra sauce or peanut sauce, she explained.
“Moringa is a sacred tree, a source of life. When used properly, it strengthens our diet and our health,” said Ms. Sombo, emphasizing the central role of rural women in achieving food security. “Everything we cook can be enriched with moringa. We just need to learn how to dry and process it,” she added.
Empowerment and sustainability in northern Ivory Coast
For the NGO ARK, this training is a key step in the fight against malnutrition and the economic empowerment of women. Monitoring will be carried out with households to measure the impact of these new nutritional practices.
The long-term objective is to encourage the creation of agri-food processing activities based on moringa, thus laying the foundations for sustainable local development in the Savanes District.
