African aviation has just lost one of its greatest ambassadors. Aeronautical engineer and business leader Jean-Claude Kouyo passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, in Abidjan, at the age of 57. He leaves behind the invaluable legacy of an international career dedicated to opening up and developing African airspace.

An academic career of excellence

Born on April 15, 1969 in Bayekou-Bassi (Gôh-Djiboua region), Jean-Claude Kouyo discovered his passion for aeronautics at a very young age. His distinguished career began in Ivory Coast before expanding internationally.

  1. Ivory Coast: Initial training at the Bingerville Military Preparatory Technical School (EMPT).
  2. France: Specialization at the Air Force Technical School in Rochefort.
  3. United States: Obtained a diploma from Spartan College combined with a license from the FAA (1995), followed by a Bachelor's degree in Aeronautics from the prestigious Embry-Riddle University.

A major figure in business aviation

Combining solid technical expertise with a sharp strategic vision, Jean-Claude Kouyo has held key positions within major global groups:

  1. 1999 – 2010: International Marketing and Sales Director at FlightSafety International (at Le Bourget), where he dedicated himself to air safety in Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
  2. 2006: Return to roots with the founding in Abidjan of Corporate Elite Group , a pioneering structure in business aviation in Ivory Coast.
  3. 2017 – 2019: Management of Grace Trading Group .
  4. 2019 – 2024: Regional Sales Director for Africa at Jetex .
  5. January 2024: Appointment as Director of Growth for the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region at Falcon Aerospace .

A builder with a big heart

Beyond his professional successes, Jean-Claude Kouyo was committed to building bridges between the African continent and the global aerospace industry. Deeply attached to his homeland, he also distinguished himself through his philanthropic actions, notably by financing the construction of a school in his village of origin.

A devoted husband and father of seven, he will be remembered as a visionary builder, an inspiring leader and a tireless architect of progress in Africa.
