Lutte contre la tuberculose : Plus de 5 000 habitants de Yopougon-Micao sensibilisés

The Micao district, in the heart of the Yopougon municipality, was the site of a major health offensive. The National Tuberculosis Control Program (PNLT) concluded an intensive awareness and screening campaign on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

A concrete assessment on the ground

The operation, organized as part of World Tuberculosis Day (WTD), achieved significant results:

  1. 5,148 people were made aware of the risks of the disease.
  2. Five new cases have been diagnosed and are being treated.

Dr. Jacquemin Kouakou, coordinating director of the National Tuberculosis Control Program (PNLT), sought to reassure the public: the detected cases present a drug-responsive form. Unlike the multidrug-resistant form, this one is effectively treated within six months, provided the treatment protocol is strictly followed. As a reminder, treatment is completely free in Côte d'Ivoire.

Yopougon, a hotspot of health vigilance

Yopougon's high population density makes it a priority area. The 2025 figures are telling: of the 3,611 cases recorded in the Abidjan region, 893 came from the Yopougon health district .

"Every undetected case is a potential source of transmission in families, schools and markets," warned Wognin Aka, departmental director of Health for Yopougon-Ouest Songon.

How should we react?

The PNLT reminds us of the warning signs that should lead to immediate screening:

  1. A persistent cough lasting more than two weeks.
  2. An unexplained fever.
  3. Weight loss or loss of appetite.

A grassroots strategy to break taboos

Launched on March 30 under the theme "United to End Tuberculosis" , this campaign focused on direct contact. Between home visits, sputum samples, educational skits and testimonials from former patients, the objective was clear: to inform without stigmatizing in order to encourage early diagnosis, a pillar of the World Health Organization's (WHO) strategy.
