Protection sociale : la barre des 23 millions d’enrôlés à la CMU franchie en Côte d’Ivoire
Côte d'Ivoire has reached a major milestone in the implementation of its social protection policy. Universal Health Coverage (CMU) has officially surpassed 23 million enrolled individuals , confirming the authorities' ambition to guarantee access to healthcare for the entire population.
According to data provided by the structures in charge of the system, more than 23 million Ivorians were enrolled in the CMU by mid-December 2025 , a historic figure that marks a decisive turning point in the generalization of health insurance in the country.
The rollout of the CMU (Universal Health Coverage) has been gradual over the past few months. After exceeding 15 million enrollees at the end of 2024 , the program saw significant acceleration in 2025, driven by intensive enrollment campaigns, improved public awareness, and a strengthened presence of the National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM) across the country.
This dynamic has allowed us to reach successively 18 million , then 20 million registered voters , before crossing today the symbolic threshold of 23 million , thus covering a large majority of the Ivorian population.
Universal Health Coverage (CMU) is one of the main pillars of the Ivorian state's social policy. It aims to reduce inequalities in access to healthcare , protect households against catastrophic healthcare costs, and sustainably improve the well-being of the population, particularly the most vulnerable.
Thanks to the CMU, beneficiaries can access a package of care at reduced costs in public and private contracted health establishments, thus contributing to strengthening the national health system.
Reaching the milestone of 23 million enrollees brings Côte d'Ivoire closer to its goal of universal health coverage , in accordance with national and international commitments. Authorities intend to continue their efforts to improve not only the enrollment rate but also the effectiveness of CMU card use by insured individuals.
This major step forward confirms the CMU as an essential lever for human development and social cohesion, at the heart of the strategy to combat poverty and exclusion in Côte d'Ivoire.
