The opening up of the Niakara department has reached a decisive stage. According to an AIP assessment carried out this Thursday, February 12, 2026, the paving work on the Niakara-Tortiya road (47 km) has now reached a progress rate of 64% .

A strategic and eagerly awaited project

Launched in January 2023 by Vice-President Tiémoko Meyliet Koné, this project ends more than 50 years of waiting for local populations. Fully financed by the Ivorian State to the tune of 48.78 billion FCFA , the project is managed by the company Établissement multi-services Soro Zié (Éts-MSSZ) .

Technical overview

The construction work is currently focused on the section between Nabédjakaha and Tortiya (20 km). Key points to remember:

1. Roadway: Two-way road (2 x 3.50 m).
2. Engineering works: Construction of a bridge over the Bou river and crossing of the Bandama river (natural border between the two sub-prefectures) already reached by asphalt.
3. Immediate impact: The end of the ordeal on the old laterite track, formerly impassable during floods or heavy rains.

An economic lever for Hambol

Beyond simply providing asphalt, this infrastructure is a true engine of growth for the region:

1. Trade & Mining: Boosting trade with the diamond city of Tortiya.
2. Agriculture: Facilitating the transport of products to urban centers.
3. Modernity: Securing the transport of people and drastically reducing travel times.
