Dr. Traoré Mamadou, chief physician of the School and University Health Service-Adolescent and Youth Health (SSSU-SAJ) of Sakassou, revealed, during a press briefing held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at the prefecture, that the 2024-2025 school year was marked by the registration of five cases of HIV/AIDS , as well as several sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and skin infections within the schools of the department.
These infections were discovered thanks to the regular actions carried out by the SSSU-SAJ teams, including:
Dr. Traoré emphasized that all diagnosed students received comprehensive and tailored medical care . This care included psychological support , appropriate medication , personalized counseling , and, if necessary, referrals to specialized healthcare facilities in the region for further investigation.
In response to the urgent situation, Dr. Traoré announced the launch of an intensive awareness campaign for the current school year (2025-2026). This campaign will be primarily implemented through the health clubs in Sakassou's schools.

The ultimate goal of these initiatives, according to the chief medical officer, is to promote awareness among the school population, to encourage individual and collective responsibility , and to reduce risky behaviors that contribute to the spread of these infections in the department's schools.
