Sécurité routière : Coup de balai dans les centres de visite technique en Côte d'Ivoire
Following the closure of two control centers and the suspension of mobile benches, the Director General of the Inland Transport Regulatory Authority (ARTI), Assamoua Désiré N'Zi , broke his silence this Friday, March 13, 2026. His observation is unequivocal: fraudulent practices are jeopardizing the safety of users.
🚩 Fraud and faulty equipment
Inspections carried out by ARTI have revealed serious malfunctions that call into question the reliability of current controls:
- Fictitious checks: In Boundiali, a certificate was issued to a vehicle that was physically located in Abidjan.
- Equipment out of order: Several centers were using defective brake testers or simply did not have any.
- Failure to comply with procedures: Basic technical standards were ignored in some establishments.
"These practices compromise the safety of users and cannot be tolerated. The lives of Ivorians come before any economic consideration," insisted the Director General of ARTI.
🚫 Immediate sanctions and strict measures
Faced with this situation, the Ministry of Transport has taken strong precautionary measures:
- Closure of the Adzopé and Boundiali centers: They will remain closed until full compliance is achieved.
- Suspension of mobile benches: All mobile benches in the country are suspended. A national inspection will begin on March 17 to validate their compliance before any resumption of service.
- Immobilization of fraudulent vehicles: Cars that have obtained stickers irregularly are removed from circulation.
🚗 What's changing for motorists
Despite these sanctions, ARTI wants to reassure everyone about the continuity of service:
- The network remains active: Of 37 fixed centers, 35 remain operational (operated by SICTA, Mayela, Recta and Silotec).
- Increased oversight: State agents will now be physically stationed at the centers to ensure that each vehicle actually passes the tests.
- Return of the physical sticker: From July 1, 2026 , displaying the vehicle inspection sticker on the windshield will once again be mandatory . This measure will soon be extended to insurance certificates.
