Sécurité routière : Coup de filet majeur contre le transport illégal à Abidjan
Operation “Zero Tolerance” is moving into high gear. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs, the Special Road Safety Police (DPSSR) conducted a large-scale operation on Friday, March 6, 2026, resulting in the seizure of 37 vehicles circulating illegally.
Divisional Commissioner Major Touré Abdul Kader , director of the DPSSR, personally led the operations on the ground. Law enforcement officers were deployed in strategic areas where offenses are rampant.
These areas are under particular surveillance due to extremely risky behavior, including driving against the flow of traffic on the Abidjan–Grand-Bassam highway , a practice that daily endangers the lives of users.
The operation resulted in the interception of a large fleet intended for clandestine transport:
As proof of the illicit nature of these activities, many drivers chose to abandon their vehicles and flee upon the arrival of the police. For the DPSSR (Directorate of Road Safety and Security), this panic confirms the existence of structured networks behind this clandestine business.
Faced with the resurgence of accidents involving two and three wheels, Commissioner Touré Abdul Kader displayed unwavering determination.
"The message is clear: all seized vehicles will be impounded. This firmness must be understood by everyone," he insisted.
Two tow trucks were mobilized to transport the seized vehicles to the administrative impound lot located on the Grand-Bassam road. Authorities warn that controls will be intensified to definitively eradicate the illegal transport of people and goods in the economic capital.
