Arbitrage, hors-jeu, données : Le ballon du Mondial-2026 passe à l’ère de l’IA
The biggest innovation of the 2026 World Cup could well be found in a ball. Named Trionda, the official ball designed by Adidas incorporates artificial intelligence-based technology capable of analyzing the game in real time.
Equipped with a miniature sensor that records up to 500 data points per second, it allows for the precise tracking of every contact with the ball, every pass, and every shot. This information is then used to assist referees, particularly in decisions related to semi-automatic offside.
While connected balloons already existed, Trionda marks a new step by placing AI closer to the action.
For FIFA, this technology should help make refereeing more precise and reduce errors during the 2026 World Cup matches.
