C’est terminé entre le Stade Rennais et Habib Beye !
The patience of Stade Rennais' management has reached its limit. As we revealed on October 19 , Habib Beye is on the verge of ejection at Rennes . Discussions have taken place internally in recent days and the appointment of a new coach has even been discussed. Beye (48 years old) - who arrived last January - had started this Ligue 1 season well with a victory against Olympique de Marseille (1-0), despite being one man down after half an hour of play.
But since then, Rennes has been bogged down. Swept away the following week in Lorient (4-0), the Bretons then beat Olympique Lyonnais (3-1) at Roazhon Park on September 14. Their last victory to date. Since then, four draws have followed (against Nantes, Lens, Le Havre, and Auxerre), a run deemed insufficient by the Rennes board, particularly by Guillaume Cerutti, the new chairman of the board of directors, who was present at the stadium last weekend and particularly dissatisfied with the performance delivered.
Facing Nice this Sunday on Matchday 10, Beye knew that the rest of his Breton adventure would most likely be decided by this match. And unfortunately for the former Red Star coach, his team suffered a second league defeat this season (2-1). Facing Franck Haise's team, Rennes first conceded the opening goal from Sofiane Diop (38th), before Jonathan Clauss (45th+1) doubled the lead before halftime. Overwhelmed, Valentin Rongier's teammates returned to the locker room to the roar of Roazhon Park, tired of his team's recent performances.
Although young Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal reduced the deficit (67th) - and even thought he had equalized late in the match before his goal was disallowed - Rennes did not miss the defeat (1-2). The whistles too. And although Brice Samba and Valentin Rongier reiterated after the match that they still supported their coach, the die is cast: Habib Beye and Rennes are finished. According to our information, several avenues have already been explored by Rennes, including one leading to Philippe Clément, former coach of AS Monaco and Club Bruges .
