Mondial 2026 : énorme coup dur pour le Maroc, deux forfaits de taille
Just days before their opening match at the 2026 World Cup, Morocco has received some bad news. The Atlas Lions will have to do without two key players for the remainder of the tournament.
According to several Moroccan and international media outlets, Nayef Aguerd and Abdessamad "Abde" Ezzalzouli have been removed from the official list submitted to FIFA. While the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has not yet officially commented on these withdrawals, the changes are already appearing on the world governing body's platforms.
To compensate for these absences, coach Mohamed Ouahbi has called up Marwane Saadane, defender for Al Fateh, and Amine Sbai, striker for Angers. These two reinforcements will have the difficult task of making up for the loss of experienced players ahead of a crucial match.
Nayef Aguerd's withdrawal is a particularly heavy blow for the Moroccan defense. The Olympique de Marseille player had been continuing his rehabilitation work in recent days, raising hopes of a return to competition. However, his injury, which has kept him off the pitch for several months, will ultimately prevent him from participating in the World Cup.
These two absences come at the worst possible time for the Atlas Lions, who are preparing to face Brazil in their first match of the tournament. The Moroccan coaching staff will now have to revise their plans to approach this match with a revamped squad.
