Postecoglou : viré après sa défaite contre Chelsea, l’entraineur de Nottingham brise un record
Manager Ange Postecoglou was sacked by Nottingham Forest on Saturday after a heavy 3-0 defeat to Chelsea , ending a 39-day, eight-match winless spell.
Crystal Palace also didn't win on Saturday, but the south London club put on a show and held Bournemouth to a 3-3 draw thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta, who scored a hat-trick... and made a big miss at the end.
The 28-year-old, who has just discovered Les Bleus, put the Eagles back on track in the second half (64th, 69th, 90th+7 on penalty). But he also missed a goal from close range alone against the goalkeeper, sending the ball into the clouds in the very last moments (90th+9).
"JP" appeared "upset" to BBC Sport "because I want to win every game, even if I scored a hat-trick. It was up to me to score the goal and I didn't."
His performance partly overshadowed the brace from his young compatriot Eli Junior Kroupi opposite him. The 19-year-old former Lorient player shone in his first start, with a header and a fine volley to give the Cherries a 2-0 halftime lead.
The Norwegian struck twice after half-time, with a powerful header from a Nico O'Reilly cross (58th) and then a left-footed shot from a Savinho pass (63rd).
He already has 11 goals after 8 matches in the Premier League, and even 14 in 10 matches in all competitions at club level.
"I'm disappointed he didn't score four or five ," Pep Guardiola joked. "Joking aside, I'm really happy but we can't rely on him ," the other strikers "have to step up and score ," he said.
The Citizens coach recorded the return of Rayan Cherki on Saturday, after being injured in August and coming on in the second half.
The French team's fine day continued with Nordi Mukiele's goal for Sunderland against Wolverhampton (2-0) and those of Lesley Ugochukwu and Loum Tchaouna with Burnley against Leeds (2-0).
It was, however, a bad afternoon for Ange Postecoglou, soundly beaten by Chelsea, booed by the City Ground crowd and jeered by the opposing supporters who sang the usual chant "You're getting sacked in the morning".
Nottingham owner Evangelos Marinakis, not known for his patience, didn't wait for the night to bring him counsel: the club announced the Australian's departure "with immediate effect" around twenty minutes after the final whistle.
The former Tottenham manager only stayed 39 days and eight matches, without winning a single victory (6 defeats, 2 draws).
In the meantime, his team had dropped from tenth to seventeenth place. A few hours after his dismissal, they had even dropped back a place to finish in the relegation zone, replacing Burnley.
The successor to "Big Angel" could be Sean Dyche or Roberto Mancini, according to indiscretions in the British media.
Saturday's matchday ended with a narrow victory for Arsenal, with no success or goals conceded against Fulham (1-0).
The "Corner Football Club" struck again: from a set piece, their specialty, the Gunners found the net thanks to Leandro Trossard in the second half.
"In the first half, the quality wasn't there, but we kept fighting and believing. We only needed one chance and, luckily, it came. After that, we controlled the game," the striker commented on Sky Sports.
