RC Lens : Avant le Mercato, la Priorité est de Verrouiller les Cadres
Before any recruitment considerations during the winter market, RC Lens must absolutely secure the future of two key players in its squad. The urgent need is for contract extensions to preserve the team's balance.
The recent successes of Adrien Thomasson and Malang Sarr illustrate Lens' success in reviving their careers. Just three months ago, their situation looked very different: Thomasson was on a downward spiral and a departure seemed likely, while Sarr had struggled to fully integrate since his arrival.
However, under Pierre Sage, both men have undergone a spectacular turnaround. Approaching his 32nd birthday, Thomasson has established himself as a locker room mainstay, enhanced by his experience and versatility. Sarr, meanwhile, has become an undisputed starter in the defense, effective both in the center and on the left flank.
For Lens management, their contractual situation has become the top priority ahead of the January 2026 window. While Sarr's contract includes an optional additional year, Thomasson's is more pressing: he will be free to sign with the club of his choice from January 1st, with a view to a free transfer at the end of the season. This is an outcome that sporting director Jean-Louis Leca is keen to avoid at all costs.
Negotiations for their respective extensions now dominate the agenda, taking precedence over any potential maneuvers in the transfer market. For RC Lens, retaining these two players will be the essential condition for maintaining the stability and positive momentum of its squad.
