Refoulé des États-Unis, l’arbitre somalien Omar Artan désigné pour la Supercoupe d’Europe
UEFA has sent a strong signal by appointing Somali referee Omar Artan to officiate the European Super Cup, scheduled for August 12 between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa.
This appointment comes just days after the Somali official was turned away from the United States, where he was due to participate in the 2026 World Cup. A situation that had sparked numerous reactions in the world of football.
By choosing to entrust him with one of the most prestigious matches of the early European season, the continental governing body intends to recognize his professionalism and expertise. The match will pit PSG, recent Champions League winners, against Aston Villa, Europa League champions.
"Football is meant to bring people together and UEFA wishes to show its respect to Omar and his remarkable refereeing qualities," said UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin in a statement released on Thursday.
