Taekwondo : Le Championnat Junior renaît de ses cendres après 15 ans

Saturday, March 14, 2026 will mark a historic date for martial arts in Ivory Coast. After a prolonged absence of 15 years , the National Junior Championship made its grand return to the Alassane Ouattara Ivorian-Korean Sports, Cultural and ICT Center (CSCTICAO).

This resumption of competition, orchestrated by the Ivorian Taekwondo Federation (FITKD) under the leadership of its president, Jean Marc Yacé , was enthusiastically received by athletes and club leaders. More than just a competition, this event represents the missing link to ensure the future of Ivorian taekwondo.

A catalyst for talent detection

The goal of this relaunch is clear: to structure the fighters' progression. During this intense day, the young taekwondo athletes displayed exemplary fighting spirit, proving that the pool of talent is far from exhausted.

"It's a logical progression: the cadets move up to the juniors, and the juniors join the seniors. In the end, it's always Ivory Coast that wins," stressed Mr. Jean Marc Yacé.

The president of the FITKD wanted to personally thank the organizing committee and its management team for making this ambitious project possible, which is essential for the country's competitiveness on the international stage.

Heading towards international summits

Beyond the national title, this championship serves as a testing ground for future world competitions. The FITKD has its sights set on two major objectives:

  1. Sub-regional and international influence to proudly represent the national colors.
  2. The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Dakar , for which rigorous preparation is already underway.

Jean Marc Yacé reassured the public about the quality of the preparation: "We have young players ready for the fight. After the recent test matches, further evaluations will follow to ensure that Ivory Coast will be able to defend itself proudly in Dakar."

A message of encouragement

While congratulating the new champions, the president sent a message of support to the athletes who did not reach the podium, reminding them that every fight is a crucial learning step.

With a level of technical skill praised by the National Technical Directorate (DTN) , Ivorian taekwondo seems to have found a new lease of life. The next generation is now on the move, ready to conquer new horizons.
