Alerte météo : Abidjan en vigilance orange face aux risques d’inondations
The Airport, Aeronautical and Meteorological Development and Operating Company ( Sodexam ) raised the alert level this Monday, June 29, 2026, at 9:38 a.m., placing the Abidjan District on orange alert . This measure follows forecasts of moderate to locally heavy rainfall, leading to significant risks of flooding.
A first alert (yellow alert) had already been issued earlier in the night, at 02:50, signaling disturbances on the coast and storms in several regions of the north and north-central (Bounkani, Gontougo, Hambol, Poro, Tchologo, Bagoué).
The risk of flooding particularly concerns four municipalities in the economic capital:
The impacts of these storms are already being felt on the ground. The Riviera 9 Kilos neighborhood, located in the Cocody district, was particularly affected by the flooding from the morning onwards.
Morning summary: Several residents and drivers found themselves trapped by the rising waters.
In response to the emergency, the Military Firefighters Group ( GSPM ) and the National Police immediately deployed to secure the area and assist those affected. Authorities strongly urge people to avoid the area until the situation returns to normal.
Although the forecast predicts a relative improvement throughout the day with partly cloudy skies, persistent rain showers are still expected along the entire coastline, as well as in the forested south and the west of the country.
As a reminder, the rainy season (from June to September) regularly exposes Abidjan to these kinds of intense and devastating events. Therefore, extreme caution is advised.
