Bounkani : Sanglants affrontements entre agriculteurs et éleveurs à Bodiaman

The Bodiaman camp, located in the sub-prefecture of Sôminassé (Nassian department), descended into violence on Monday , April 13, 2026. A dispute between the agricultural and pastoral communities degenerated into direct clashes, leaving several people critically injured.

A heavy human toll

The confrontation, which was exceptionally violent, resulted in serious injuries inflicted by bladed weapons. According to initial reports:

  1. Several victims have deep cuts to their throats .
  2. The injured received emergency care at the Sôminassé health center.
  3. Due to the seriousness of their condition, they were evacuated to the Regional Hospital Center (CHR) of Bondoukou .

The origin of the conflict: a recurring scenario

As is often the case in this region of northeastern Ivory Coast, the spark came from the land. The destruction of crops by livestock is being blamed. What should have been a discussion between farmers and herders quickly escalated into a spiral of armed violence, primarily involving machetes.

Authorities' reaction and regional issues

The sub-prefect of Sôminassé, Coulibaly Yodifiali Félix , immediately went to the scene to assess the situation and try to defuse the crisis.

"Coexistence remains fragile in Bounkani. Without structural intervention from the State, the risk of escalation threatens the social cohesion of the entire area."
Issues identified Solutions recommended by executives
Pressure on natural resources Strict delimitation of agricultural and pastoral zones
Transhumance management Enhanced regulation of herd movements
Recurrence of violence Creation of permanent dialogue committees

An urgent need for regulation

This tragic incident underscores the urgent need to address the issue of transhumance in Bounkani. For observers and local populations, moving from dialogue to administrative action (land demarcation) is now the only way to guarantee lasting peace between the two pillars of the region's rural economy.
