Modeste : Coup de filet contre des imposteurs sur le parc à bétail

As Tabaski 2026 approaches, tensions are rising at livestock sales sites. On Friday, May 8, the Grand-Bassam police prefecture put an end to the activities of a group of individuals suspected of impersonating officials at the Modeste park.

An attempted convoy hijacking

Deployed as part of Operation "Tabaski 2026," law enforcement officers arrested several suspects wearing vests and badges bearing the colors of the Autonomous District of Abidjan . These individuals were attempting to prevent trucks from unloading at Modeste in order to force traders to direct their livestock to the Anyama market, with planned collection points at Moossou and Anani.

The intervention of those in charge of the sector

Alerted by these maneuvers, Toé Seydou , vice-president of UNSCOOMABCI (National Union of Livestock Traders' Cooperative Societies of Côte d'Ivoire), went to the site. His assessment was unequivocal:

  1. False identity: The individuals claimed to be acting under an official mandate from the District of Abidjan.
  2. Escape and arrests: Of the fifteen or so people present, the majority fled upon the arrival of the police. Four suspects were apprehended for questioning.
  3. Geographical inconsistency: Mr. Toé pointed out that the Modeste site depends on the South-Comoé region and not on the District of Abidjan, making any intervention by the latter illegitimate in this area.

A call for vigilance from the authorities

This situation apparently comes as no surprise to those involved in the industry. Warning letters had already been sent to the Presidency, the Prime Minister's office, and the relevant ministries (Interior, Trade, Defense) to denounce the risks of market destabilization before the holiday.

“We ask the authorities to guarantee the free movement of goods and to preserve public order so that Tabaski can take place in serenity,” pleaded Toé Seydou.

Silence from the Autonomous District of Abidjan

When contacted by AIP to clarify its position or confirm a possible mandate, the communication department of the Autonomous District of Abidjan has not yet provided any official response.
