Tensions sur les lignes Abidjan–Paris : Air Côte d’Ivoire défie Air France et Corsair
The Ivorian skies are currently experiencing unprecedented turbulence. For several weeks, tensions have been brewing between Air Côte d'Ivoire and French giants Air France and Corsair over long-haul flights between Abidjan and Paris. This situation, which directly affects commercial air transport, reveals significant economic and strategic issues for Côte d'Ivoire.
Historically, Air France and Corsair dominated the long-haul market connecting the Ivorian economic capital to France, controlling nearly 75% of flights on this strategic route. But the emergence of Air Côte d'Ivoire , which launched its own long-haul flights to Paris with its Airbus A330 Neo, is changing that. The national airline is now demanding a fair share of the market, asking French carriers to rebalance their frequencies and allow greater visibility for its own flights.
Faced with this demand, the Ivorian Civil Aviation Authority has taken a dramatic decision: the winter flight schedules of Air France and Corsair have been suspended until further notice. This measure, which affects several daily flights on the Abidjan–Paris route, is intended to force French airlines to reconsider their position in the face of the national airline's growth. Meanwhile, Air Côte d'Ivoire 's flights have continued as normal since October 6, strengthening the airline's presence in the market.
For travelers, this situation may generate uncertainty, but above all, it illustrates a strategic shift in Ivorian air transport. According to experts, Côte d'Ivoire is seeking to consolidate its position in a rapidly expanding sector, where African air traffic could double by 2043. The country thus wants to ensure that its national airline benefits from better opportunities and harmonious development in the face of historical European players.
Negotiations are still ongoing between Ivorian authorities and French airlines. The outcome of these discussions could reshuffle the Ivorian skies and mark a turning point in the balance between national and international carriers.
In the coming months, it will be crucial to monitor this development, as it could not only transform the Abidjan–Paris flight market, but also strengthen Air Côte d'Ivoire 's role as a key player in air transport in West Africa.
