He was quickly removed from the 63-year-old politician by her security detail. For several minutes, she had chosen to spend time with residents of the historic center of Mexico City.
As the local media outlet BCN24 points out, this incident has inevitably sparked criticism regarding the flaws in the presidential protection protocol.
So far, Mexico's first female president has not reacted to this attack.
