France : La Cour de cassation confirme la condamnation de Nicolas Sarkozy dans l’affaire Bygmalion
On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the French Court of Cassation rejected the appeal filed by former President Nicolas Sarkozy, thus upholding the conviction handed down on appeal on February 14, 2024. This decision marks the end of the legal proceedings in the Bygmalion case, which concerns the illegal financing of his 2012 presidential campaign.
The Paris Court of Appeal had already sentenced Nicolas Sarkozy to one year in prison, six months of which were suspended , for significantly exceeding the legal limit on campaign spending. According to the judges, the system of double invoicing and fictitious agreements implemented by his party had allowed him to conceal the overspending, constituting illegal campaign financing.
With the dismissal of his appeal, the conviction becomes final . Although sentence adjustments currently limit the risk of immediate imprisonment, this verdict is a major blow to the former president and weighs heavily on his political and media future. It is also Nicolas Sarkozy's second final criminal conviction , after the one in the "wiretapping/Bismuth" case.
