Afrique du Sud : L'incroyable hélitreuillage d'un crocodile mangeur d'hommes

In an operation worthy of an action movie, South African police carried out a perilous intervention to recover the remains of a presumed victim. An officer was lowered by rope into predator-infested waters to extract a 4.5-meter , 500-kg specimen.

A suspect spotted by drone

It all begins near a submerged bridge where the vehicle of a missing man is found abandoned. Fearing that the driver may have been swept away by the current, the authorities deploy drones and helicopters.

It was on a small island, among several other crocodiles, that a crocodile caught the attention of experts. Captain Johan Potgieter , from the diving unit, noticed unmistakable signs:

  1. An unusual stillness despite the noise of the engines.
  2. An abnormally swollen stomach , suggesting a recent and large meal.

A high-risk extraction

To secure the area, the animal was shot. Captain Potgieter was then winched down over the river to retrieve the carcass, amidst other reptiles prowling nearby.

"Getting close to a crocodile's head is never an ideal situation," he later admitted.

Suspended by a cable, the officer manages to secure the behemoth. The image is striking: man and predator are hoisted together into the air to be transported to Kruger National Park .

A macabre discovery

The reptile's autopsy confirmed investigators' worst fears. Inside its stomach, specialists found:

  1. Human remains: DNA analysis is underway to confirm whether they are those of the missing man.
  2. Several shoes: A discovery that raises questions about other potential victims, although the captain tempers this by reminding everyone that these animals are opportunists who "swallow everything they find."

Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane was keen to commend the exceptional courage of his teams, describing this mission as a demonstration of professionalism in extreme conditions.
