Guinée : Le transfert de Toumba Diakité sème le chaos à Conakry

The transfer of Moussa Dadis Camara's former aide-de-camp, Toumba Diakité , to the Koya detention center plunged the Kaloum administrative district into a state of high tension on Tuesday, February 10. Between gunshots, a security cordon, and a legal standoff, the situation remains volatile.

1. A high-voltage operation

From the early hours of the morning, gunfire rang out near Conakry's central prison, located in the immediate vicinity of the presidential palace. Security forces quickly cordoned off the area, bringing traffic to a complete standstill and causing widespread panic among residents.

Calm was only restored around midday, following clarifications from the Attorney General, Fallou Doumbouya. He confirmed that special forces had intervened to transfer the detainee to Koya, citing imperatives of "internal security" and "maintenance of public order".

2. The reasons put forward by the prosecution

According to judicial authorities, this transfer follows incidents that occurred the previous day:

  1. Refusal to search: Toumba Diakité reportedly resisted a search of his cell during a routine operation on Monday.
  2. Insubordination: The prosecution describes an "aggressive" attitude towards the guards and a rebellion by some of the fellow prisoners during the extraction.
  3. Use of force: The prisoner's resistance reportedly forced elite units to intervene physically.

3. The defense denounces an "illegal pretext"

The defense lawyers reacted swiftly. Attorneys Paul Yomba Kourouma and Lancinet Sylla strongly contested the official version, denouncing it as an arbitrary measure.

"Toumba Diakité never opposed the search. It is a fallacious pretext to justify an illegal deportation," the defense collective asserts.

The lawyers point out that their client, sentenced to ten years in prison for crimes against humanity in the September 28th case, has already served nearly nine years of his sentence. They demand his immediate return to the Conakry central prison, highlighting the lack of a sound legal basis for this transfer.
