Already at the heart of the horrific Shakahola Forest case (more than 450 victims), Pastor Paul Mackenzie faces new charges. This Wednesday, February 11, 2026, he was indicted for his alleged involvement in the Kwa Binzaro massacre, where a mass grave containing 52 bodies was discovered last August.

A new macabre case

The founder of the International Church of Good News is being prosecuted, along with seven co-defendants, on particularly serious charges:

1. Terrorism (membership in an organized criminal group advocating a violent ideology).
2. Murders of children (nearly half of the victims were between 6 months and 17 years old).
3. Homicides .

The autopsy of the bodies exhumed at Kwa Binzaro revealed the same modus operandi as at Shakahola: the victims died of starvation , driven by an extreme fast imposed by the sect.

A crime orchestrated from prison?

The troubling aspect of this case lies in the chronology of events. The deaths at Kwa Binzaro took place between January and July 2025, while Paul Mackenzie was already incarcerated .

The prosecution suspects the pastor of having directed the operations remotely. Witnesses claim that he communicated by telephone from his cell with Shallyne Temba , the local priestess of Kwa Binzaro, to help her organize this mass suicide.

A complex legal marathon

Similar to the Shakahola case, the justice system has divided the case into several parts:

1. Shanzu Court: Terrorism trial. The eight defendants pleaded not guilty .
2. Mombasa High Court: Trial for murder and homicide. The pleadings have been suspended pending psychological evaluation of the defendants.

Note: The prosecution has already announced its intention to oppose any request for release on bail, given the seriousness of the facts and the risk of recidivism.
