Kenya : sept jours de deuil national en hommage au chef de l'opposition Raila Odinga (président)
Kenyan President William Ruto has declared seven days of national mourning following the death of opposition leader Raila Odinga in India on Wednesday at the age of 80.
The Kenyan head of state, who narrowly defeated Mr. Odinga in the last presidential election in 2022, spoke of "one of Kenya's greatest statesmen and one of Africa's greatest sons (...) a giant of democracy, a fearless freedom fighter and a tireless warrior for good governance."
During this period, in tribute to Raila Odinga's "extraordinary contribution" to the East African country, "the national flag should be flown at half-mast across the Republic (...) in all our missions abroad," Mr. Ruto said during an address at the presidential palace.
