La CEDEAO Réaffirme son Engagement pour l'Eco, Maintien de l'Objectif 2027
The Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) held their 68th Ordinary Session on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria. Côte d'Ivoire was represented by its Vice-President, Tiémoko Meyliet Koné .
The future common currency, the Eco, was one of the central topics of this session. Member States reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying regional economic convergence. In particular, they pledged to implement the economic policies necessary to meet the convergence criteria for the adoption of the Eco.
ECOWAS leaders have maintained 2027 as the target year for the entry into force of the single currency.
To realize this vision, the Presidential Task Force on the Eco will soon resume its activities . Its mission will be to find solutions to sensitive and urgent issues that could hinder the currency's adoption process.
Furthermore, to strengthen regional budgetary and financial harmonization, the ECOWAS Directive Council adopted an important measure:
These decisions underline the willingness of the heads of state and government to take the institutional and technical steps required for the implementation of the Eco.
