The first phase of parliamentary elections in Egypt has begun.

Lancement de la première phase des élections législatives en Égypte

Egypt began the first phase of its parliamentary elections on Monday to fill seats in the House of Representatives, the state-run Al-Qahera News channel reported.

Nearly 63 million voters are registered to elect members of the House in a two-phase electoral process.

🗳️ Voting Procedure

The first phase of the vote spans two days and concerns citizens of 14 provinces, including Alexandria, Assiut, Aswan, Beheira, Beni Suef, Fayoum, Giza, Luxor, Matrouh, Minya, New Valley, Qena, Red Sea and Sohag.

  1. Polling stations: Voters are distributed among 5,606 subcommittees within 70 electoral districts.
  2. Security: The Ministry of the Interior has assured that a comprehensive security plan is in place to guarantee the protection of polling stations.

👤 The Candidates and the Composition of the Chamber

In total, 1,287 candidates are running in the first phase of the elections, distributed as follows:

  1. 1,143 independent candidates (individual system).
  2. 142 candidates under the party list system.

The Egyptian House of Representatives consists of a total of 596 seats :

  1. 568 members are elected by popular vote (the purpose of this election).
  2. 28 members are directly appointed by presidential decree.

📅 Election Phase Calendar

Egyptian voters abroad already voted on November 7 and 8 at embassies and consulates in 117 countries.

The second phase will concern citizens of the remaining 13 provinces.
