Manifestation à Londres en soutien au Soudan face à l'escalade du conflit

Protesters gathered in London, UK, on Wednesday to express their solidarity with the people of Sudan. The rally, held outside Downing Street, comes amid an escalating and brutal conflict that has ravaged Sudan for the past two years.

The demonstration aimed to draw attention to the dangerous new phase of the war, particularly following allegations of atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Elhussein Yassin, one of the demonstrators, denounced the silence of the international community and the British and American governments in the face of the killings.

“Over the past three days, many people have been killed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militias, by the Janjaweed militias, by Hemedti [Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo], using Emirati weapons. The entire world, including the British and American governments, remains silent,” he said. Mr. Yassin claimed that more than 2,000 people had been killed by the Janjaweed militias, accusing the RSF of committing genocide. He insisted, “We are here to support our people, because this land is Sudanese land, not Hemedti’s or the RSF’s.”

This week, the RSF paramilitary forces consolidated their control over the entire Darfur region, after driving the Sudanese army from its last stronghold. The fighting for control of Sudan has already claimed the lives of more than 40,000 people and triggered the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with over 14 million displaced.

Another protester, Ziyad Kashan, testified to the RSF's crimes, mentioning burned houses and entire neighborhoods, such as Bahri in Khartoum. "It's very discouraging not being able to return to my country, which I miss with all my heart," he said.

The London protesters also called for a boycott of the United Arab Emirates, which they accuse of supporting the RSF, an allegation the UAE denies. They chanted "We demand a free Sudan" while waving Sudanese flags.

The capture of El-Fasher, the provincial capital of North Darfur, by the powerful Arab force has raised fears of a new partition of Africa's third-largest nation. This concern is reminiscent of the independence of oil-rich South Sudan, which came about nearly 15 years ago after years of civil war.
