Tchad : Le GCAP alerte sur un risque de « massacre » avant la marche du 2 mai
As its planned demonstration approaches on May 2, 2026 , the Political Actors Consultation Group (GCAP) has taken a major diplomatic step. In an open letter addressed to the international community, the organization denounces a climate of terror and demands the immediate activation of human rights monitoring mechanisms.
The march on May 2nd is not merely a street demonstration; it aims to be a bulwark against the lack of civil rights and the erosion of public freedoms in Chad. The GCAP demands:
To justify its fears, the group recalls the dark hours of the country's recent history. It cites in particular the massacre of October 20, 2022 (more than 300 dead) and the execution of Yaya Dillo on February 28, 2024, which has gone unpunished despite promises of an international investigation.
The GCAP has compiled a blacklist of recent abuses of power:
