Tchad : Le GCAP alerte sur un risque de « massacre » avant la marche du 2 mai

As its planned demonstration approaches on May 2, 2026 , the Political Actors Consultation Group (GCAP) has taken a major diplomatic step. In an open letter addressed to the international community, the organization denounces a climate of terror and demands the immediate activation of human rights monitoring mechanisms.

A cry of alarm against injustice and impunity

The march on May 2nd is not merely a street demonstration; it aims to be a bulwark against the lack of civil rights and the erosion of public freedoms in Chad. The GCAP demands:

  1. The restoration of the rule of law.
  2. The end of systemic injustice.
  3. Respect for fundamental freedoms, the foundation of citizenship.

The specter of past violence

To justify its fears, the group recalls the dark hours of the country's recent history. It cites in particular the massacre of October 20, 2022 (more than 300 dead) and the execution of Yaya Dillo on February 28, 2024, which has gone unpunished despite promises of an international investigation.

The GCAP has compiled a blacklist of recent abuses of power:

  1. The abduction and conviction of Succès Masra on May 16, 2025.
  2. The deprivation of nationality deemed illegal for Charfadine Galmaye and Makaïla N'guebla.
  3. The arrest of trade unionist Djimodouel Faustin.
"All those who criticize bad governance or the high cost of living are hunted down by the ANS or eliminated by masked commandos." — Excerpt from the GCAP letter.

A heavy human toll and a call for responsibility

The political group puts forward alarming figures to illustrate the repression under the current regime:

  1. More than 1,230 deaths recorded in just five years.
  2. 472 political exiles under threat of death or imprisonment.
  3. Tens of thousands of citizens driven to take up arms in the face of political exclusion.

The international community called upon to witness

In conclusion, the GCAP is holding international bodies accountable. By warning that another massacre is possible on May 2nd, the organization cautions that the silence of external partners will be interpreted as complicity in the tragedies to come. "Lives are at stake," the group warns, refusing to allow history to repeat itself amid general indifference.
