États-Unis : Trump remanie la diplomatie mondiale, une trentaine de pays concernés dont 13 en Afrique
The administration of US President Donald Trump has undertaken a vast reorganization of the US diplomatic corps, marked by the early recall of several dozen diplomats appointed under the previous administration of Joe Biden .
According to information confirmed by diplomatic sources and relayed by Agence France-Presse (AFP), around thirty countries are affected by this decision, which primarily impacts the African continent.
Several career ambassadors were reportedly informed by telephone of the premature end of their assignments, with an obligation to vacate their posts before mid-January . This method was deemed unusual by the American Diplomatic Association (AFSA) , which represents State Department employees, and which expressed concern about the break with traditional diplomatic protocol.
Africa is the continent most affected by this wave of recalls. Thirteen African countries have ambassadors affected by this measure. These are Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia and Uganda .
This decision could have repercussions on diplomatic relations and ongoing cooperation programs between Washington and these countries.
After Africa, Asia comes in second with changes announced in six countries : Fiji, Laos, the Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and Vietnam .
In Europe , four countries are affected: Armenia, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Slovakia . Two Middle Eastern countries, namely Algeria and Egypt , are also on the list, as are Nepal and Sri Lanka in South and Central Asia, and Guatemala and Suriname in the Western Hemisphere.
The stated objective of this vast operation is to realign American diplomacy with the “America First” doctrine , a central pillar of Donald Trump’s foreign policy. The president intends to surround himself with representatives fully aligned with his strategic orientations, particularly in matters of security, trade, and international influence.
This decision marks a turning point in US foreign policy and could reshape the diplomatic balance in several regions of the world, particularly in Africa.
