Partenariat énergétique : La Côte d’Ivoire et l’Algérie scellent un accord stratégique à Abidjan
A major turning point for the West African energy sector. On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire and Algeria formalized a historic framework agreement for cooperation dedicated to energy and renewable energy. The document was initialed by Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly, the Ivorian Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, and his Algerian counterpart, Dr. Mourad Adjal.
This partnership is the result of several weeks of preparatory work and bilateral technical missions between Algiers and Abidjan. It aims to provide concrete and immediate solutions to the current challenges facing the Ivorian electricity grid, while laying the foundations for long-term energy sovereignty.
The cooperation plan is divided into two strategic phases:
“By combining the skills of our teams and deploying state-of-the-art equipment, we will not simply lay power lines or install turbines. We are building the foundation of a strong Ivorian ambition through a strategic and fraternal partnership that is typically African.” — Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly , Ivorian Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy.
For his part, Dr. Mourad Adjal welcomed the establishment of this essential legal and institutional framework. He reaffirmed Algeria's full readiness to share its expertise and know-how to make this alliance a model of mutually beneficial South-South cooperation.
