The Ivorian energy landscape has reached a new stage. In an official statement released on February 16, 2026, the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy confirmed a major commercial hydrocarbon discovery on block CI-501 .
This success is the result of collaboration between the Italian giant Eni and the national company Petroci Holding .
The discovery, named Calao South , was made possible by drilling the Murène South-1X exploration well. The figures attest to the technical complexity of the operation:
The deposit contains high-quality mixed resources, including light oil , natural gas and condensates .
The impact of this announcement is considerable for national reserves. The total discoveries made on blocks CI-501 and CI-205 now amount to approximately 1.4 billion barrels of oil equivalent .
