At the initiative of Minister Fidèle Gboroton Sarassoro, President of the Regional Council, the first edition of the Poro Mother's Day took on a highly social dimension on Saturday, July 11, 2026. More than a simple celebration, this gathering of 3,500 women — including 2,400 wives of traditional chiefs — marked the starting point of a vast community awareness campaign.

Ambassadors facing social challenges

Minister Fidèle Gboroton Sarassoro took advantage of this historic mobilization to entrust a crucial mission to the wives of traditional chiefs. As pillars of their communities, they are called upon to become key opinion leaders to promote:

  1. Education: To educate young girls and ensure their continued participation in the school system.
  2. Civil status: Generalize the systematic declaration of births from maternity ward onwards.
  3. Financial autonomy: Encouraging membership in Village Savings and Credit Associations (VSLAs).

The call to break the cycle of administrative and educational insecurity

Minister of State Anne Désirée Ouloto, representing First Lady Dominique Ouattara (the event's patron), praised an approach that places women at the center of local development.

She firmly appealed to the population regarding two regional emergencies:

  1. Stopping early pregnancies: A real obstacle to the future of young girls, who are too often forced to abandon school.
  2. Registering children with the civil registry: A child without a birth certificate is an invisible child to the State, deprived of their fundamental rights and public policies.
“Guaranteeing every child the right to education and an administrative identity must be the absolute priority of Poro families.” – Anne Désirée Ouloto, Minister of State.

Solidarity and recognition

The success of this first edition also rests on the synergy and unity of the region's leaders. A heartfelt tribute was paid to the First Lady, Dominique Ouattara, for her ongoing social initiatives in the north of the country.

As a concrete gesture of support for their empowerment, the First Lady and the organizers showered the participants with gifts:

  1. A complete loincloth outfit was offered to each of the 3,500 women.
  2. Large quantities of household equipment and work tools to facilitate their daily lives and boost their economic activities.

By transforming Mother's Day into a true forum for action, the Poro Regional Council is laying the foundations for sustainable social change, driven by women for the well-being of the entire community.
