SILA 2026 : Le Président Alassane Ouattara réaffirme son soutien au monde du livre
The opening of the 16th Abidjan International Book Fair (SILA) was marked by a distinguished guest. On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Exhibition Park, President Alassane Ouattara officially launched the festivities, demonstrating by his presence the vital importance of culture in Côte d'Ivoire.
Accompanied by the Vice-President, the Prime Minister, and key members of the government, the President clearly enjoyed himself. Far from simply observing protocol, he took a warm immersion in the exhibitors' world.
This behavior, combining simplicity and attentiveness, is interpreted by observers as a clear desire to place the book at the center of the Ivorian social project.
For Anges Félix N'Dakpri , the general commissioner of SILA, this visit goes beyond the institutional framework. He sees it as a "genuine sign of affection" and a profound commitment to intellect.
"If infrastructure builds the body of a nation, culture and books constitute its soul," he said emotionally.
Under the presidential leadership, the fair has transformed: once a simple trade fair, it has become a strategic hub of African intelligence , propelling local literature onto the international stage.
Having already participated in 2024, President Ouattara confirms, through this renewed participation, that the book sector is now a key driver of national development . This impetus given at the highest level of government offers an unprecedented platform for stakeholders in the cultural sector.
SILA 2026 continues until Saturday, May 2nd . Between conferences, book signings and workshops, the public is invited to celebrate this intellectual dynamism that makes Abidjan one of the literary capitals of the continent.
