A tragedy of rare intensity struck the Toit Rouge district in Yopougon on the night of November 17-18, 2025. A violent fire ravaged a residential building located not far from the Shanghai maquis, claiming the lives of four members of the same family.
According to initial reports from the scene, the fire appears to have started in a ground-floor storage area. Within minutes, the flames engulfed the entire building, trapping the occupants as they slept.
The N'Guessan family is the hardest hit:
-Yao Aya Rosine (41 years old), shopkeeper
-Koffi Ehouman Ange (19 years old) final year student at the N'Dotré modern high school;
-N'Guessan Ahou Marie Cloé (9 years old) CM2 student;
-N'Guessan Marie Victoire (5 years old)
All were found dead.
Two survivors were, however, able to be urgently evacuated by firefighters:
A 15-year-old boy and a 70-year-old woman. They are currently under observation at the Cocody University Hospital.
The police have opened an investigation to determine the exact causes of the fire.
