Crise dans la santé en Côte d'Ivoire : les Assistants Chefs de Clinique menacent de grève

In Ivory Coast, discontent is growing within University Hospital Centers (CHU). Assistant Clinical Heads (ACC) , pillars of the health system and medical education, are denouncing a situation of extreme precarity and announcing an imminent strike notice.

A "ghost" status despite years of service

Despite having passed their competitive exams with flying colors, the practitioners from the 2022 to 2025 graduating classes find themselves in a complete legal and administrative limbo. As university lecturers and hospital physicians, they perform a dual role without any legal standing in the eyes of the state.

The findings are alarming:

  1. Absence of decrees: No official document has been signed to ratify their appointment.
  2. Zero remuneration: Without status, these professionals receive neither salary nor bonuses .
  3. An endless wait: Some have been working voluntarily for almost 4 years , in disregard of their fundamental rights.
"Some of our colleagues died before their situation was even regularized or before they received their first salary," laments the ACC collective.

The demands: towards a blockade of the healthcare system?

Faced with what they describe as a profound injustice, the ACCs are demanding concrete and immediate measures from the government:

  1. The signing of the appointment decrees without delay.
  2. The complete administrative regularization of all pending promotions.
  3. The payment of salary arrears and the respect of the State's financial commitments.

A healthcare system on borrowed time

This crisis goes beyond mere professional concerns. In Côte d'Ivoire, Assistant Clinical Directors form the backbone of university hospitals. A strike by these practitioners would not only paralyze the training of future doctors , but would also severely jeopardize patient care .

The message is clear: without swift intervention from the authorities to restore their professional dignity, Ivorian hospitals are about to go through a period of great turbulence.
