Guerre Ukraine : Rencontre en Hongrie reportée… Trump « ne veut pas de perte de temps » avec Poutine
UMPNTH CHANGE• Despite his diplomatic efforts, the President of the United States has failed to achieve peace between Russia and Ukraine
For Donald Trump , this is yet another attempt to achieve peace in Ukraine. The expected meeting in Budapest between the White House tenant and the Kremlin master will not take place for the time being.
The US president recently announced that he would meet with Vladimir Putin in the next two weeks. At the same time, he was pressuring Ukraine to give up the eastern Donbass region in exchange for peace, a senior Ukrainian official revealed.
Questioned by the press at the White House on Tuesday, Donald Trump said he did not want a "meeting for nothing" with his Russian counterpart. "I don't want to waste any time, so we'll see what happens," he added, without giving details on the reason for the indefinite postponement.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also canceled a planned meeting to organize the Budapest meeting, which they had discussed by phone the day before. The Kremlin had said earlier Tuesday that there was no "specific" date for a new Trump-Putin meeting.
The US president has shown growing frustration with President Putin in recent months, despite what he describes as a good personal relationship between them. Things are no better between Kyiv and Washington, with numerous disagreements, particularly over Donbass. Following Friday's meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, a senior Ukrainian official said that diplomatic efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine seemed to be "going around in circles."
