Venezuela : Vers un tournant politique ? Delcy Rodríguez annonce une amnistie générale
Less than a month after Nicolás Maduro's capture by US forces, interim president Delcy Rodríguez made a significant symbolic move. In a solemn address before the Supreme Court (TSJ), she unveiled a series of measures aimed at pacifying a country fractured by decades of tension.
"This law should allow us to put justice back on track and to reorient coexistence between Venezuelans," said Ms. Rodríguez.
The ceremony took place in the presence of the pillars of the regime, including Diosdado Cabello (Interior) and Vladimir Padrino López (Defense), illustrating a desire to show a united front despite the forced transition.
However, this opening is being closely watched by the international community and local organizations. While the authorities claim to have already released 800 prisoners, the NGO Foro Penal disputes these figures and maintains that at least 711 political prisoners (including 65 foreigners) are still behind bars.
The president of Foro Penal tempered the general enthusiasm by recalling a crucial legal distinction:
While dozens of families are still camping outside prisons hoping to see their loved ones released, the exact content of the bill will determine whether Venezuela is embarking on a real democratic transition or a mere political survival maneuver.
