The manhunt didn't last long. Less than a day after the gruesome discovery that shook the city of Aboisso, the men of the Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI) ended the flight of the main suspect in the case of the rape and murder of Dame Edwige Kouassi.

An exemplary police mobilization

On the morning of Thursday, June 25, 2026, shock gripped the Belle Ville neighborhood of Aboisso following the discovery of the young woman's lifeless body. Given the gravity of the situation, the Aboisso BRI (Rapid Intervention Brigade), under the leadership of Commissioner Cissé, immediately launched an investigation.

Observations at the crime scene, meticulous collection of evidence, and cross-referencing of witness statements: the method quickly pays off. Initial interviews point to a key suspect: a man seen in the victim's company the day before the tragedy.

High-speed chase and arrest in Sokoura

Law enforcement deployed their teams across several sectors of the city. The suspect was eventually located in the Sokoura district. Upon spotting the police, the individual attempted to flee through the alleyways, but the BRI's deployment gave him no chance. Thanks to perfect coordination on the ground, the officers managed to catch and arrest him.

The suspect confesses

Taken to the interrogation room, the accused eventually broke down. He admitted to having spent the evening with Edwige Kouassi, claiming that an altercation had broken out between them.

The state of the investigation: His statements, compared with the material evidence found at the scene and the testimonies, constitute serious indications confirming his direct involvement.

The investigation is now continuing under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance of Aboisso in order to shed full light on this tragedy. While this swift arrest brings initial relief to the bereaved family, it is now up to the Ivorian justice system to make the final decision.
