Accepter la compétition, « c’est ça être un garçon » : Le tacle glissé de Tidjane Thiam à Ouattara
In Côte d'Ivoire, an opposition demonstration, banned last Friday to "maintain public order," was dispersed Saturday with tear gas in Abidjan. More than 200 people were arrested. Some were "beaten" by the police, denounced PDCI-RDA president Tidjane Thiam in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
“Houphouëtism is not measured in words”
He believes that Houphouëtism, which Alassane Ouattara's RHDP claims to embrace, is incompatible with violence. "Houphouëtism is not measured in words; it is not about going to bow at the tomb of the president we all respect and love. It is about being faithful to one's spiritual heritage. It is a message of love for one's neighbor. This is not compatible with beatings," Tidjane Thiam charged.
He recalled that President Houphouët, the model of the ruling party, was not afraid of competition. As proof, in 1990, he allowed his long-time opponent, Laurent Gbagbo, to run against him. "That's what it means to be a boy," asserted the leader of the PDCI-RDA.
In 2010, Laurent Gbagbo, who does not claim to follow Houphouët's ideology, imitated the founding president by allowing Alassane Ouattara to run against him in the presidential election that year. "That's also what it means to be a boy," insisted Tidjane Thiam.
