Yacouba Doumbia tacle sévèrement Guillaume Soro et ses partisans
Senegalese political news continues to cause ripples in Ivory Coast, now serving as a battleground through the media. Faced with the enthusiasm of Guillaume Soro's supporters (the "Soroists") who applaud Ousmane Sonko's defiant stance, Yacouba Doumbia, CEO of the L'Avenir Group, has decided to firmly refocus the debate.
In a scathing post on his social media this Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the journalist denounces the attitude of those he describes as being "always looking for a new political mirror in which to contemplate their own fantasies of revenge."
According to Yacouba Doumbia, supporters of the former Ivorian Prime Minister have an unfortunate tendency to seek substitute figures abroad to mask their own political void:
“Yesterday it was Obama. Then Macron. Today it’s Sonko. Every time, the same reflex: as soon as a man raises his voice against the powers that be, they immediately label him the “new Soro.” As if insolence alone were enough to create a political destiny.”
For the media mogul, politics demands much more than theatrical posturing. "Politics is not just about challenging a head of state in front of microphones [...]. Otherwise, social media would be creating presidents every weekend," he quips.
For Yacouba Doumbia, the comparison between the Senegalese leader and the former head of the Ivorian rebellion is completely unfounded. He highlights fundamental differences in legitimacy and methods:
The Director General of the L'Avenir Group drives the point home by drawing up a very critical assessment of the current political weight of Guillaume Soro in Ivory Coast.
| Indicator | Observation by Yacouba Doumbia |
| Electoral weight | "Soro has almost no electoral weight anymore." |
| Opposition alliances | Regular support for candidates against the RHDP ended in "Failure!" |
| Show of force | A result described as "meager". |
| Current local roots | "One town hall in Ferké. Just one." |
This record is considered extremely weak for a man who was once presented as a key figure on the Ivorian political scene. Yacouba Doumbia concludes by emphasizing that while Ousmane Sonko inspires admiration in some for his courage and mobilization efforts, he remains perceived by others as an impertinent leader, far removed from the grandiose fantasies that Guillaume Soro's supporters try to project onto him.
