Sécurité routière : Triple célébration sous haute surveillance en Côte d'Ivoire

To mark the long weekend combining Pentecost , Tabaski , and Mother's Day , the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs, Amadou Koné, deployed significant resources. A large-scale road safety operation was launched across the country on Sunday, May 24, 2026, to manage mass travel and prevent road accidents.

This offensive brings together the key players in the sector:

  1. The Road Safety Office ( OSER )
  2. The Directorate General for Land Transport and Traffic ( DGTTC )
  3. The Directorate of Special Road Safety Police ( DPSSR )

Operation "Zero Tolerance": Initial Assessments

The DPSSR (Department of Road Safety and Protection) wasted no time in taking action on the first day of deployment. Strict checks led to 14 drivers being fined for serious offenses: bald tires, lack of a valid vehicle inspection certificate, overloading, and refusal to comply with police orders. In addition, five vehicles deemed highly dangerous were immediately impounded.

At the same time, increased surveillance was implemented on historically accident-prone roads, such as the Yopougon-Adjamé expressway and the Riviera 2 - Cap Nord link. This vigilance paid off, as no accidents were reported on these areas during the day of May 24.

Awareness campaigns and screenings in train stations

The ministry's action was also intended to be preventative. In the bustling bus stations of Yopougon and Adjamé, agents went out to meet passengers:

  1. 266 passengers and drivers were made aware of best practices.
  2. 30 professional drivers were given alcohol tests before getting behind the wheel, all of which came back negative.

The night proved slightly less exemplary: during night checks carried out between May 23 and 24 in Cocody and Yopougon, a motorist was intercepted with a blood alcohol level well above the legal limit, and several others were flirting with the red zone.

A call for collective responsibility

Faced with these challenges, Minister Amadou Koné firmly reiterated the golden rules for this weekend of festivities: respect speed limits, ban alcohol at the turn, avoid overloading and check the mechanical condition of vehicles .

This campaign is part of the continuation of the National Road Safety Strategy 2021-2025 and is already initiating the 2026-2030 plan, whose objective remains unchanged: to sustainably reduce road fatalities in Ivory Coast.
