Don de sang en Côte d’Ivoire : un taux de couverture record de 98 %

Ivory Coast is now close to achieving self-sufficiency in blood transfusions. During the 29th edition of the "Saturdays of Solidarity" held on May 9, 2026 in Bouaflé, Professor Soro Kountélé Gona, representing the Minister of Health, revealed that government reforms have brought the rate of satisfaction of national needs to 98% .

A dramatic increase in collections

In the space of two years, national mobilization has reached unprecedented levels, marking the end of a period of chronic deficit:

  1. 2023: 235,000 bags collected.
  2. 2024: 298,000 pockets.
  3. 2025: 309,567 pockets (Historical record).

Keys to success: Motivation and Proximity

This leap forward can be explained by a strategy focused on valuing volunteer donors and improving the way they are received:

  1. Financial incentives: The transportation allowance for regular donors at fixed sites has doubled (from 1,000 to 2,000 FCFA ). A bonus of 1,000 FCFA has also been introduced for new donors and mobile blood drives.
  2. Improved comfort: Introduction of varied and hot meals after donation.
  3. Digitalisation: Modernisation of the sector via the toll-free number 1613 and mobile applications ( CNTS CI Mobile and Côte d'Ivoire Don de Sang ), facilitating appointment booking and stock management.
Major distinction: Based on these results, the National Blood Transfusion Center (CNTS-CI) has won the 2025 National Excellence Award for best health establishment.

Looking ahead to 2026: Strengthening the territorial network

The Ivorian government does not intend to stop there. To maintain this momentum and ensure complete transfusion safety, seven new departmental centers will open in 2026 in the following locations:

  1. Gagnoa, Grand-Bassam, Kong, Songon, Boundiali, Guiglo and Touba.

A charity event in Bouaflé

The ceremony in Bouaflé, themed around self-sufficiency in the Marahoué region, was marked by a massive collection, a raffle and the decoration of the most assiduous donors, in the presence of prefectural and municipal authorities as well as the Director General of the CNTS-CI, Dr Yassongui Mamadou Sékongo.
