Aéroport d’Abidjan : Le Ministère des Transports tape du poing sur la table pour la gestion des bagages

In response to a growing number of passenger complaints regarding delivery delays, the Ministry of Transport convened all stakeholders at Félix Houphouët-Boigny Airport on Monday, December 29, 2025. The objective was clear: to resolve the issues and restore passenger confidence.

An emergency mobilization for peak periods

Under the leadership of Minister Amadou Koné, a strategic meeting was held between the ministry's office, the General Directorate of Air Transport (DGTA) and the main operators (ANAC, AERIA, SODEXAM, AVISECURE, MENZIES).

This meeting aimed to anticipate peak traffic at the end of the year and the upcoming summer season by optimizing each step of the journey: from check-in at departure to baggage claim at arrival.

Key measures adopted

To transform the passenger experience, several concrete decisions have been made:

  1. Optimizing outgoing flows: An action plan has been launched to correct conveying problems on the departure lines (LD1 and LD2). The objective is a complete resolution of the anomalies by the end of February 2026 .
  2. Arrivals area modernization: To reduce waiting times, two new high-capacity baggage carousels are already operational. While awaiting the full expansion of the airport, existing infrastructure is being used to its full potential.
  3. Creation of a Ministerial Monitoring Committee: Coordinated by the DGTA, this new committee will bring together two representatives per entity to manage and arbitrate operations in real time.
  4. Transparency and coordination: Implementation of a Daily Operational Coordination Centre (DOCC) and production of a daily activity report to facilitate the sharing of information between stakeholders.
"The goal is to guarantee a quality experience and to align with the best international standards," the Ministry's office emphasizes.

Towards a national air transport policy

These immediate measures are part of a long-term vision. Since the creation of the DGTA (Directorate General of Air Transport) in 2022, Côte d'Ivoire has been structuring its aeronautical industry. Following a major consultation workshop in January 2025, a draft text defining the new National Air Transport Policy is expected in 2026, aiming for modern governance in accordance with ICAO standards.
