The Ivorian government is stepping up its fight against gender-based violence (GBV). On June 13, 2026 , the Palais des Congrès at the Sofitel Abidjan Hôtel Ivoire will host a major gathering for the National Commitment , a significant event held under the patronage of the First Lady, Dominique Ouattara .

Led by the Ministry of Women, Family and Children, this meeting will bring together nearly 2,000 key stakeholders: institutions, traditional leaders, religious leaders, the private sector, the media, and civil society. The objective? To forge a collective pact for zero tolerance towards violence against women and girls.

📊 The results of a decade of struggle in numbers

Since 2011, Côte d'Ivoire has significantly strengthened its legal framework and protection mechanisms. The financial and human resources invested in recent years are yielding concrete results:

  1. 12 billion FCFA mobilized between 2020 and 2024 for the prevention and care of survivors.
  2. 10,547 cases of GBV recorded and supported in 2025 (a figure which testifies to the persistence of the problem, but also to a liberation of speech and a better effectiveness of alert systems).
  3. 3,000 health, security and social sector professionals trained.
  4. 2,000 community and religious leaders sensitized.

🛠️ An increasingly structured arsenal of protection

Under the leadership of Minister Nassénéba Touré , the National Program to Combat Gender-Based Violence (PNLVBG) has equipped itself with effective field tools stemming from the National Strategy initiated in 2014:

📞 Freephone number (1308): A free and direct line to report assaults and direct victims in an emergency.
  1. More than 80 multi-sectoral rapid intervention platforms across the entire territory.
  2. 33 "Gender" reception offices installed in police stations and gendarmerie brigades to humanize and encourage open communication when filing complaints.
  3. Specialized reception centers to ensure comprehensive medical, psychological and social support.

Towards a sustainable social pact

The meeting on June 13th will be more than just a formality. It will mark the starting point of a solemn declaration , in which every segment of Ivorian society will make a public commitment. The ambition is clear: to bring about lasting change in attitudes in order to build a more united, protective, and rights-respecting Ivory Coast.
